Santa Clara County Homeless Counts Jump

The 2025 annual point-in-time homeless count had bleak news for Santa Clara County. The number of individuals who have been homeless for more than one year jumped by 21% to 4,650 individuals. Overall, the county homeless population count was at 10,711, an increase of more than 8% from two years ago. Over the past decade, homelessness has increased by more than 60%.

It was reported that the primary reason for loss of housing in the county was job loss, which impacted about 27% of homeless people. About 12% of those surveyed reported rent increases or eviction as another major cause of homelessness.

San Jose continues to see the most homeless, with more than 6,500 of those counted. Cupertino saw its homeless population double from about 50 to 101. Palo Alto also saw its homeless count increase from about 200 to more than 400. Mountain View had about 880 homeless people counted, which was about 300 more than those counted in 2023.
